The School

Sam Hawkins took over an ailing dance School in the summer of 1999 and breathed new life into it, with her enthusiasm for teaching and her love of dance.

The school is situated in the Devas Club, Stormont Road, Battersea. Classes are held in Tap, Modern, and Ballet for ages of 3.5 years to older children, and include Adult Tap classes. The school follows the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance Syllabus.

As well as the children being able to take examinations, the school holds a Parents Day at the end of each term, where parents are invited to the class to see what their children have been working towards and achieved! Summer school classes may be available, and if so, the timetable will be offered to the parents.

When possible, the school tries to arrange outings for the children, giving them the opportunity to see a show locally or in the West End.  This enables them to see their favourite style of dance performed on the stage, and enhances their knowledge.  For this to be successful some parents will need to volunteer their help.

The school has a consultant Chartered Physiotherapist, Warrick McNeill, MCSP SRP, (from ‘Physioworks’), as an advisor for Injury Prevention, Children with Physical Problems, and Advice. Warrick McNeill has been a member of the Physiotherapy Advisory Group to ‘Dance UK’, and lectures to the imperial society of teachers of dance on Anatomy and other topics.
